Front 242 at Granada
Show date September 24, 2017, Granada Theater
Front 242 are legends in Industrial and EBM music. They are the ones to popularize the phrase and associate it with this type of music. I jumped at the chance to see them again after such a long time. I was not disappointed. Oh how I love Industrial Music. It has an aggressiveness that I crave as far as dance music goes. I like all kinds of electronic (and not) music, but my top genre is EBM. As I was looking around the audience I realized that it was mostly men. I think this is strange and interesting...I guess aggressive dance music mostly attracts men? I don't really understand why women aren't into it. I absolutely love it.
I had plans to meet up with a couple of friends for dinner at Sundown before the show. I've discovered that valet parking your car and eating at Sundown (only tip for valet as opposed to more dollars for regular parking) is a great way to go to shows at Granada Theater which is my favorite venue in Dallas. Sight lines are great, the tiered platforms make for awesome views especially if you are short, parking is easy and getting home is a little closer than from downtown for me. AND if you want to meet the band, they usually hang out in the back after the show.
Opening act was a band called Iioioioii. Absolutely no idea how to pronounce this, and they were a bit slow for my taste. They did have 1 song that I liked which was a bit faster, but I have no idea what song that was. I looked up their music and I think it might be the Face Them All Dance Mix, but I have no idea if they normally play dance mixes of their songs live. None of their other regular mixes were fast and this one sounded most like the way I remember it. I feel kind of ridiculous because I thought this band was Leaether Strip originally and thought we missed the opening act and so did another friend of mine who showed up. He loved the band though and was ready to go look them up and download everything.
Leaether Strip was next. I saw them in 2014, and this time it was only 1 guy whereas last time I saw them I think it was 2. I enjoyed them more this time for some reason...maybe it's because this time I had friends with me and last time I was by myself. Right before the end of the show, another guy joined him on stage from Die Krupps apparently. I'm not familiar with Die Krupps but I loved their energy and interaction and they seemed very close (awwww!).
Another friend texted me at the last minute that she was coming after all! It really is rare that I find myself alone at a concert. I love my concert buddies!!
Front 242 played 2 hours, but honestly to me it felt like 30 minutes. One way I know if I'm enjoying a show is if it seemed really short, and I just want it to last longer. I could not believe they were finished already. They had a great, high energy show with awesome light show, although I could call it a dark show as it was mostly very dark which was fitting and really cool. I have no idea of the names of most of the songs they sung...I do love Front 242 but I don't know the names of their songs most of the time. I just love the energy and the fact that I can dance. Contrary to popular sentiment, I do not actually like Headhunter all that much. It's just okay. I know it's their famous and popular song, and it was good. It's just not my favorite.
They finished the show joking that they would be back in another 20 years when they were old men using canes! LOL Considering they are rather a bit older already they were sure jumping and dancing around a whole lot! I was very impressed and I'll definitely be back, especially if they have a lineup like this.
